Below you will find the gear that I currently use with a short description what I like about it. This might give you an idea if it would be right for you. I will keep this list continuously updated as my kit changes or expands. This way you will see how my gear evolved over time.

As my main camera I currently use a Sony A7R IV. With its amazing resolution and the dynamic range this is an easy choice for landscape shots. You will need high quality lenses to get the most out of the sensor but it really is worth it. The camera is also quite lightweight which makes it great for hiking. Even though it has been on the market for some time now, it will be hard to find a better landscape camera. Mirrorless cameras are great for getting live histograms while composing your shot.

As my second and backup camera I use a Canon 7D Mark II. This is a legacy camera that I used before making the switch to full frame systems. I love this camera because of its super sturdy build and the amazing selection of lenses available. It is also great for situations where I need longer zoom lenses. With the crop factor I can get a good range with relatively lightweight setup. Given the age of the camera it can also be found at a bargain. Highly recommended as a backup or entry system.

Probably my most used lens is the Sony FE 24mm 1.4 GM. It is an excellent lens, just search for the more in depth reviews on the web. For years I was using zoom lenses because of the versatility over primes, but when I looked back on the focal length I used most for landscape shoots 24 mm was the clear winner. Today I carry the 24mm GM with the 24-105 G lens as my go to lenses. I find this superior to my 24-70 GM setup as it gives me the highest quality for my most used focal length and the extended range for all other situations. I highly recommend this lens to be part of your kit.

The Sony FE 24-105mm 4.0 G OSS is my second most used lens. It is very sharp and has a constant aperture of 4.0 and optical image stabilisation. In combination with my 24mm GM this is the perfect setup for landscape photography.

For a wide angle lens I use the Sony FE 16-36 2.8 GM. This is a spectacular lens, it is one of the sharpest wide angle lenses out there. Even though it is really expensive it is very much worth the investment if you are shooting a lot of landscapes. The build quality is amazing and the size and weight is still manageable on the small Sony body. The fast 2.8 aperture helps if you want to use the lens in low light.

I traded in my Sony FE 24-70mm 2.8 GM for a Sony 50 1.2 GM since I hardly used the 24-70. I have to say that even though the price is very high this is a really exceptional lens. The autofocus is brilliant, it's super fast and hits the eye every time. The picture quality is also amazing, nothing to complain here it is sharp already wide open, even so that at 1.2 it is better compared to 2.8 from the 24-70. Even though you can't really compare it to the 50 1.8, I have to say that at f8 side by side you really have to look hard to see a difference in sharpness. But this lens is really about having amazing AF performance combined with exceptional image quality at every setting and a bokeh to die for. I will keep the 1.8 as my travel lens though.

The Sony FE 50mm 1.8 might be the best value lens for all of Sony cameras. I highly recommend getting one! It certainly lacks the refined quality of some of the more expansive options but with less than 200 grams you get a 1.8 aperture with very decent image quality. I use it for street photography and more or less have it always in my bag. If you don't need fast autofocus you will get a bargain.

For a long time I was using solely my Canon for tele photography but I found myself more and more wanting to have the flexibility for my Sony system too. After trying some lenses I chose the Sigma 100-400 F5-6.3 DG DN OS Contemporary. It has more or less the same sharpness as the Sony 100-400 GM lens at half the price. The Sony has an edge in the AF performance but to be honest the Sigma is plenty fast for my usage. Further the lens is also significantly lighter which is important for hiking.

The Canon EF 70-200mm F4L IS II USM is my go to zoom lens. It is incredible sharp and super versatile. In combination with the crop factor of the 7D this gives me a 320mm effective zoom range in a relatively lightweight package. The constant aperture of 4 is also a nice feature of the lens. The lens is half the weight of the 2.8 version and also half the price.

For Macro photography I use the Canon EF 100mm F2.8L Macro IS USM. It has great image stabilisation and is also super sharp. I love the bokeh of the lens and sometimes also use it for zoom shots when I need a larger aperture compared to my 70-200 F4L lens. It has a great build quality and is relatively small and light. The effective focal length on my 7D gives me a great level of magnification of the subject.
